Here's one to add to your collateral damage list. My mom is the president of the women's auxiliary at her church, and she was talking about the aid they could give to a young mother who needed a crib for her new baby. In years past, my mom said, they would have referred her to the church's thrift store and given her a voucher for a crib. But thanks to various regulations (not just CPSIA), the thrift store can no longer sell cribs, so whenever they receive donations of cribs they have to dispose of them. They can't even give them away to young mothers in need because the liability is too high. So my mother was discussing trying to find a way to either get someone to donate the crib directly to the young mother, or find a way for them to afford a new crib for her with the church's limited budget.
